About the event


Dr Gabril Hoskin has worked as a performer and popular music scholar for over 15 years. His training in ethnomusicology has taken him across the world presenting on topics such as music and cultural diversity, social identity, world music and pop music movements. This talk focuses on the social history of Brazilian popular music, giving an overview of the development of Brazil’s regional, national and international styles over the course of two and a half centuries. Reflections on the political and cultural currents that have accompanied Brazilian music over the centuries will be illustrated with both recorded and live examples.
